The Fort Republic Experience!

The Fort Republic Experience!

I came across the Fort Republic in one of their local shows here in Angeles City, Pampanga.  They caught my attention when they started their second set which was explosive and made all the people sing along with the band.  Members Aeron, Neypacs, Gabs and Erwin most definitely knows how to rock the show.

Chemistry is what makes the band tick knowing they are best friends, kumpares, PSP and drinking buddies; this probably adds to their aura when they are up on stage watching them enjoy what they do best… Rock and Roll!  Some criticize them but to them it doesn’t matter as long as people enjoy the show.

What makes the band different is their rendition of cover songs, this tends to heat up and becomes like a mini concert when the band gets in overdrive mode.  They are not the most talented among musicians but they definitely know how to make a show out from it!  I was told by one of the customers in the bar “they enjoy what they do, its like you are part of the show all the time.  This what keeps me coming back to their shows!”

“On stage it feels like heaven, no boundaries and there are no rules…  It is just pure rock and roll energy.  It may just be plain entertainment to people but to the band… it is passion.  you can’t make everybody love you but who ever stays and listens to our music that is more than rewarding to me.” says guitarist and vocals Neypacs.

“Doing cover songs seems to be boring at times but we have learned to adapt to it like it is your own song and having the same feeling when the original artist plays it on their concerts”  says lead vocals Aeron.  He adds “everybody gets to participate in our shows, let the people sing!”

The band has been planning on recording their own music since a lot of their lads have been doing so.  After all, what’s more rewarding than hearing your own music playing on the radio.  There has been some projects building up within the group for them to go to the next level but seems they are still having fun on their current status.

“There comes a time when you tell yourself that you could have written that song from let’s say Coldplay or Rico Blanco but never came up to the idea when your all alone trying to write songs.  Understanding how they wrote it and the structure of the chord inspires me on how to  make up new ones!” says Neypacs.

While sipping my mug, the band was picking on Gabs (bassist) about how old he is because this guy has been around for almost half of his life playing hard as a rocker. He balances his time from being a banker and a musician and never gets rusty in his craftmanship as a bass player.

Gabs adds “I played countless gigs and for so many years now but the passion still remains. I always thought about retiring and concentrate my career as a banker but as long as people watch and enjoy our shows, I’ll keep rockin til’ the break of dawn!”

Finally the drummer speaks, Erwin adds “I’m not the best of the drummers here in our turf but I sure love what I do best and I’m so honored playing with these true friends and rockers!”

It has been one hell of a night with Fort Republic here in Angeles City.

Before heading back home I jammed with the boys on their 3rd set which was wicked and made me feel like a rockstar for just one moment.

They are truly the band to keep an eye on this 2012…
